Now that school is officially out it means that summer vacation is in full swing! So what better way to kick off summer holidays than spending the Canada Day long weekend as a family! Whether you’re looking for a family weekend escape, day trip to the city, or a little something for your not so little ones, we have rounded up some can’t miss events happening across our areas of service.


Join the family fun all weekend long at the Collingwood Festival for Canada. Starting June 30th until Sunday July 2nd, this family festival will take place in the historic, harbour front community of Collingwood. Kick off the festival with a pancake breakfast in the morning at the town hall, then make your way over to Collingwood Harbour where the whole family can get on the water and try non-motorized sports like rowing, paddling and even sailing! After a day in the sun join the communal & family picnic at Millennium Park where you can grab a seat at a picnic table, and enjoy a free family meal compliments of Loblaw! Don’t miss your chance to spend this long weekend as a family, come out and celebrate our country’s big birthday in Collingwood with music, live performances, fireworks and so much more!
For the first time ever Port Credit’s Paint the Town Red Festival will be a two-day event in honour of Canada’s 150th birthday! The celebration will begin on July 1st  with the annual Canada Day Parade along Lakeshore Blvd., followed by an enormous cake cutting! After the parade make your way to Port Credit Memorial Park and see events happening for all age groups! Grab a free hot dog and check out some of the great live entertainment, including a Beauty & the Beat princess show, an Ariel Dance Cirque and so much more! At 10pm be sure to grab a comfortable spot, as a 25-minute firework display will light up the Port Credit Skies. 
Experience Picton this Canada Day and help commemorate Canada’s 150th birthday and Picton’s 180th! This all day event is FREE to the public and will take place on Main Street. Enjoy street performers, live music and be sure to grab yourself a plate of Picton’s Pirates famous BBQ! There is plenty to do for the little ones, with a children’s carnival in Benson Park, a Come Alive Play Zone, giant inflatable play area and much more! Later in the day the make your way over to the Delhi Park for a spectacular fireworks celebration!
Make your way to Beaverton this long weekend for their annual “Celebrate Canada Day Beaverton” festival and parade. This FREE community event will help commemorate Canada’s 150th birthday! Start your day with a pancake breakfast at the Fire Hall and be sure to stroll the streets of Downtown Beaverton where you will find artisan shops and outdoor displays. At 1pm join the celebration parade along the streets of Beaverton and after make your way to Beaver River for the Annual Beaverton Lions Club Duck Race! After some fun in the sun be sure to take one of the horse draw wagon rides through town, and then get cozy at the Beaverton fairgrounds where you will be treated to live music and a stunning fireworks show!  
Starting Canada Day grab the whole family, your fishing rods and gear and make your way to any lake in Ontario. For one week only, from July 1st-9th in light of Canada’s birthday, The Government of Ontario is waving all fishing license. So if you’ve got a little one that is eager to explore, this is the perfect opportunity for some quality family time on the water!
