Well, no one is going to complain that they didn’t get a chance to use their sauna or hot tub this summer. At our cottage we have a rule that you have to jump in the lake first before anyone is allowed to indulge in the modern comforts of either. This summer may have pushed the envelope however! Saunas used to bring to mind Swedes and Speedos. They are most certainly on trend and you will hear people sing the praises of the various incarnations. Whichever floats your boat, they no longer need to be small claustrophobic sweat lodges tucked away in a dark corner and with the ever present hint of mildew lurking. Think large windows that make you feel like you’re actually outdoors. Entire outdoor bathroom retreats complete with showers and lounge areas and overflow bathtubs right on down to airy cozy traditional sized rooms, but with enticing lighting and lighter coloured wood. Popular year round – not just for the ski season, here are a few inspiring design ideas if you’re thinking of heating things up. No Speedo required!
