Patti Kendall, Director of Marketing and Events for the Blue Mountain Association thinks it might be. “Unlike many of the big-city light displays that are purpose-built for the occasion, the Blumination Dream Trail is part of a natural setting, surrounded by trees and mountains,” she explains. The one-kilometre wintry walk winds through the pedestrian village of Blue Mountain and, this year, according to Patti, the second-annual event will have “more than a million lights and surprises around every corner.”

And the lights are everywhere. On the trail, beside it, above it and throughout the surrounding trees. Night skiers can see the illuminated walk from their vantage point on Blue Mountain.

Thanks to the ingenuity of Smash Reality Inc., a Collingwood tech company, there will be a dozen interactive digital light installations along the trail. Once an hour the larger installations are choreographed to the same music. Last year, everyone delighted in an unannounced pop-up wedding at one of these installations. What’s more romantic than a twinkling winter scene under a night sky?

“The Blumination Dream Trail is an exciting new experience to add to group holiday parties and a great addition to your family winter holiday traditions,” says Patti, adding that, “last year we were surprised at how many young singles participated in the Blumination Dream Trail, as well as families.”

Fill a dark winter’s eve with dancing lights and music in this natural and sparkling setting. Head to the information booth then continue on through the interactive light display stations. Walk along the trail in one go or hop on and off. There are 15 restaurants in the Blue Mountain Village; you could have dinner in one, dessert in another and hot chocolate where the Blumination Dream Trail ends, in the Blue Mountain village square.

The second-annual winter light display opens November 30 and continues every night, starting at dusk, until the end of March, 2020. Opening night celebrations will be a spectacle of their own, with live music and a fireworks display over Mill Pond. Bring your bestie, the kids, or just come on your own to renew your spirit and fall in love with winter.
