Chestnut Park hosted its fifth Symposium on Wednesday, May 22nd. Our Spring Symposium was packed with guest speakers providing valuable insight on different aspects of the Real Estate industry. It is designed to add to our knowledge banks and to empower us to overcome the market challenges and to better enable us to assist both our buyer and seller clients with all their real estate needs. We had the opportunity to host the event once again, at Crow’s Theatre

We welcomed our agents to the event with lovely refreshments prior to beginning the days presentations.

Our day began with wonderful introductory remarks by Chestnut Park President and CEO, Chris Kapches.

Our first presenter of the day was Kerry Harris. Kerry returned back after receiving rave reviews following her presentation on the advantages of co-branding (the agent and the brokerage) at our last Symposium. This year, she explored a new topic KYC (Know Your Client) and Personal Reputation Management. She discussed demographic challenges and preferences, as well as learning how to protect and, if need be, restore your reputation.

Harry Perlis represents realtors and brokerages in litigation matters and disciplinary issues before the tribunals of the Real Estate Council of Ontario, and joined us to discuss RECO complaints and how to handle them.

Following Harrys presentation and question and answer period, we took a break for lunch catered by Table 17.

The afternoon kicked off with a presentation from Kathleen Coumou and Seth Watsky, who came to us from Christie’s International Real Estate in New York. Their presentation provided further insight into Christies and how our agents could leverage themselves using Christies brand, including a deep dive into many of the marketing materials and opportunities that Christies offers our agents.

Jason Mercer, the Toronto Real Estate Board Chief Market Analyst and Director of Service Channels, joined us to provide an up to date analysis of the greater Toronto area resale market and help us understand the underlying economic and policy drivers.

After a short break, we concluded the presentations for the day with the Agent Panel. Four of agents, Adrian Mainella (Toronto), Merete Lewis (Toronto), Barb Picot (Collingwood), and Mark McDade (Owen Sound), spoke on how they deal with the industry’s prevailing challenges and how they channel their knowledge and skills towards successful real estate careers.

We wrapped up the day with some wine, cheese, and mingling among the agents and speakers.

Thank you to all of the agents and guests who attended, and we hope to see you at our next Symposium!
